چکیده

We report the first detection of the 6.2μm and 7.7μm infrared ‘PAH’ emission features in the spectrum of a high redshift QSO, from the Spitzer-IRS spectrum of the Cloverleaf lensed QSO (H1413+117, z∼2.56). The ratio of PAH features and rest frame far-infrared emission is the same as in lower luminosity star forming ultraluminous infrared galaxies and in local PG QSOs, supporting Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, Postfach 1312, 85741 Garching, Germany [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] School of Physics and Astronomy and the Wise Observatory, The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv 69978, Israel [email protected] INAF, Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma, via di Frascati 13, 00040 Monte Porzio Catone, Italy [email protected] ESO, Karl-Schwarzschildstraße 2, 85748 Garching, Germany [email protected] Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 525 Davey Laboratory, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA 16802, USA [email protected] Department of Astronomy, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742-2421, USA [email protected]

STAR FORMATION IN THE HOSTS OF HIGH-z QSOs: EVIDENCE FROM SPITZER PAH DETECTIONS

We present Spitzer rest frame mid-infrared spectroscopy of 12 z 2 millimeter-bright type 1 QSOs, selected from unlensed and lensed QSO samples and covering a range of AGN optical luminosities L5100 1⁄4 1045Y10 erg s . On top of the AGN continuum, we detect PAH emission from luminous star formation in nine objects individually, as well as in the composite spectrum for the full sample. PAH lumino...

First Detection of Hco Emission at High Redshift

We report the detection of HCO(J=1→0) emission towards the Cloverleaf quasar (z = 2.56) through observations with the Very Large Array. This is the first detection of ionized molecular gas emission at high redshift (z > 2). HCO emission is a star formation indicator similar to HCN, tracing dense molecular hydrogen gas (n(H2) ≃ 10 5 cm) within star–forming molecular clouds. We derive a lensing–c...

Molecular Gas in High Redshift Qsos

We review cm and mm observations of thermal molecular line emission from high redshift QSOs. These observations reveal the massive gas reservoirs (1010 to 1011 M⊙) required to fuel star formation at high rates. We discuss evidence for active star formation in QSO host galaxies, and we show that these high redshift, FIR-luminous QSOs follow the non-linear trend of increasing LF IR/L (CO) with in...

A QSO host galaxy and its Ly α emission at z = 6 . 43 ⋆

Host galaxies of highest redshift QSOs are of interest; they provide us with a valuable opportunity to investigate physics relevant to the starburst-AGN connection at the earliest epoch of the Universe, with the most luminous black holes. Here we report an optical detection of an extended structure around a QSO at z=6.43 in deep z and zr-band images of the Subaru/Suprime-Cam. Our target is CFHQ...

The mid infrared spectrum of the hyperluminous galaxies IRAS F15307+3252 and the Cloverleaf

We report the detections of the hyperluminous galaxy IRAS F15307 +3252 at z = 0.93 and of the Cloverleaf quasar, H 1413+117 at z = 2.56, in the mid infrared using ISOCAM. The spectrum near 10 μm (observed wavelength) joins smoothly with the data taken from the ground or with the IRAS satellite. We have detected none of the infrared features attributed to PAHs. For F15307 +3252, the mid-IR emiss...
